For the first time since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic in Japan, Tokyo has registered over 1,000 cases of contagion in just 24 hours: according to official data, in the capital, the overall toll of infections has exceeded. It has reached 58,000, the highest level among all 47 regions in the country.
In the last 24 hours, 1,300 new cases have been reported in Tokyo, a significant increase compared to last Saturday when infections were still below 1,000.
Japan is also struggling with the English variant of Covid-19, initially intercepted among passengers on flights from Great Britain and South Africa. In mid-December, the government raised the alert level to the highest level on a scale of 4 and required bars, restaurants, and karaoke to bring business closes to 10 PM earlier.
